Welcome to my E-Portfolio! My name is Brooklyn Groen and I am currently a senior student at the University of Arkansas intending to graduate in May of 2025. I am seeking a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminology and Sociology and currently have a GPA of 3.74. I have a fervor for true crime and helping other people with difficult situations. During college I volunteered at the Kids Life After-School program and did volunteer fundraisers during my experience in the Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, Inc. organization for two years. For my future career path I plan to provide active listening, critical thinking, adaptability, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving to help the company advance in socioeconomic growth as well as making society a better place. I love being able to help out my community and those in need be able pursue and reclaim control over their lives and make positive changes. Criminology struck me as a career field I would love to be apart of because crime can impact not only the victim, but their family, community, friends, and organizations. By being able to bring justice to those who have been hurt and uncovering facts for those who have gone through something tragic to have the clarity they drastically need is something I strive to be able to accomplish and bring to every individual I interact with.

Communication & Leadership
These pictures are my artifacts that represent my participation in Alpha Chi Omega rush recruitment and the initiation of my two littles that I mentored throughout Alpha Chi Omega membership. These two artifacts indicate my career competencies, those being communication skills and leadership, I acquired throughout the years of involvement in Alpha Chi Omega. During my time in this organization I met many girls that helped me learn how to communicate with large groups and improve my interpersonal skills as well. Recruitment was able to help me learn how to communicate important points in conversations and provide conversation topics to help others engage in communication with me. By gaining these communication skills I was also able to work on marketing and networking skills during rounds of recruitment by teaching possible new members about our domestic violence philanthropy and answering any questions they may have. I gained promoting skills by encouraging and supporting our organization to possible new members by providing them examples of how it would best fit their interest and beliefs. These skills are all very important in many careers, but the start to gaining more soft skills is by first working on one's communication.
Alpha Chi Omega also gave me the opportunity to improve my leadership skills. During my sophomore year I was given the chance to mentor two girls as I would get to call them my littles. I was able to mentor them in the organization and improve their understanding of philanthropy events and fundraisers. By being able to help them find their place in Alpha Chi Omega I was able to gain leadership experience because I taught them the rules and expectations this organization expected from them. I helped steer them in the direction to branch out and do all the fun events, inspirational events, and events that would provide them with experience as well. Leadership is important skill to have becuase it means you are able to manage different people's opinions, ideas, and disagreements in a way where you can create a plan that can get the job done correctly and efficiently. I am ready to use these career competencies within my line of work and am always prepared to gain more soft skills to improve myself for the better of the company!

Research & Time Management
These links represent my artifacts being my social research paper and human trafficking essay. These two artifacts exhibit my ability to use search engines as well as Microsoft Word in order to write important papers over specific topics. It demonstrates my dedication to find the most appropriate and informative information over the various topic along with the correct way to present it. The social research paper took an entire semester to prepare and correct our questions and analyzation of the material. It also took preparation and practice for the interview part of the assignment to be ready to confide in our participant. We practiced our interview questions during class multiple times in order to add or alter any questions before the actual interview. During the social research paper I took time to research the websites and news articles including the most information and that consisted of the most informative stories of others to include as examples in the paper. This topic of social media affecting the appearance and internal desire for people to change themselves was an extremely interesting research that showed me how important it is to build others up instead of knocking them down. Its important that we understand the type of affect social media has on children and teenagers self assessment and with that, this helped me pick my topic for my next artifact.
This Human Trafficking Essay demonstrates my passion for the field of Criminology and the different topics within this field as well. My Human Trafficking essay helped me realize the importance of time management and disadvantages one endures when you choose to procrastinate instead. This essay required an entire semester of researching, learning, and understanding the content of human trafficking, specifically the sex trafficking of children which is the topic of my essay. This being my first 20 page paper, it helped me improve on my time management skill by understanding how much time I needed to put aside out of classroom for this specific assignment in order to get it done on time and be thorough within the rubric requirements. By doing this it also gave me more time to do the rest of my assignments throughout the semester to the best of my abilities. Using attentive listening during class lectures I was also able to use specific class meeting slides to include in my essay as well. With various different parts to this essay it was important that I did the appropriate research much before the deadline for each part was due. This gave me the ability to really absorb the information I was reading and understand the urgency, impact, and importance of the news stories I read about the sex trafficking of children. Each story gave greater detail of the tremendous amount of human trafficking occurring all over the world. Social media has had a huge impact on the affects of human trafficking on young children and teenagers by exploiting their vulnerability to the world for traffickers to take advantage of without kids understanding what is happening. I find it very important that individuals comprehend the urgency needed to fight human trafficking and protect the innocence of young girls and boys.
